Modular AccessoLoo Ordered For Lurgan Park

“I am delighted to hear that after a long, personal campaign, state-of-the-art Changing Places facilities have been secured for Lurgan Park. These ‘Changing Places’ units allow those with severe disabilities and their carers the ability to access toileting and personal hygiene in a safe and comfortable environment." Cllr Julie Flaherty

Following on from a successful tendering round the AccessoLoo Crew is delighted to have been chosen to provide the new Changing Places facilities at Lurgan Park. The decision by Armagh Craigavon Banbridge District Council to increase their portfolio of Changing Places across the region is fantastic news and the addition of the modular unit in Lurgan Park will be warmly welcomed by the disabled community across Northern Ireland and beyond.

Proposed siting of the modular AccessoLoo in Lurgan Park

A meeting took place with officers from the council to finalise the details for the proposed site of the new modular AccessoLoo, with an agreement made that it will be near the entrance beside an existing car park. Complete with a peninsular toilet, changing table, ceiling hoist, and height-adjustable sink, the new Changing Place will hopefully be completed and ready for use before Easter 2022.

Campaigns across the island of Ireland for the addition of further Changing Places are growing in strength, with provision being increased annually. Christine McClements, who is an ardent campaigner says, “It cannot be acceptable that a parent or carer should be forced to change, clean, or dress a severely disabled child or adult on a dirty toilet floor. Public spending should always take account of the needs of the whole community, especially for these very basic needs.”

With AccessoLoo modular units already in place in both Larne and Ballymena, proving popular with visitors that need them, the addition of another Changing place in Lurgan will give added benefit to options when looking for places to visit for recreational outings.
